AFM: Jon Bernthal, Catalina Sandino Moreno Join Catherine Zeta-Jones in The Godmother

Publish date: 2024-08-08

“The Walking Dead” and “Fury” star Jon Bernthal, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Oscar Jaenada and Mehdi Dehbi have joined Catherine Zeta-Jones in the cast of drug-lord drama “The Godmother.”

Sierra/Affinity will launch international sales at the American Film Market next week. Filming is slated to begin in the spring with Eva Sorhaug directing from a screenplay by Frank Baldwin.

Zeta-Jones stars as the late Griselda Blanco, otherwise known as “The Godmother of Cocaine.” Sierra/Affinity holds the life rights to Blanco, who was murdered in a drive-by shooting in Medellin, Colombia in 2012.

The film is being produced by Daniela Cretu through her First Born Films banner. Nicholas Pileggi is executive producing with Sierra/Affinity’s Nick Meyer, Marc Schaberg and Kelly McCormick.

Blanco instigated and fueled many of the Miami drug wars that took place during the late 70s and 80s and grossed millions of dollars a month. She was arrested and convicted in 1985 in California and served 18 years in prison before she was released in 2004 and deported back to Colombia.

Moreno was nominated for an Oscar for her performance as a drug courier in “Maria Full of Grace.”
